By the end of October 2026, Italy had reported 76 local cases of dengue fever and France eight — roughly twice as many as a year earlier. Portugal released 30,000 sterilised mosquitoes, the EU is investing in diagnostics and surveillance, but experts believe it is no longer possible to completely eradicate the tiger mosquito.
