Philologist Mokiyenko explains why the word «могнуть» has taken hold in youth speech
St Petersburg University professor Valery Mokiyenko linked the popularity of the word «могнуть» to the natural “recharging” of expressive vocabulary: familiar expressions lose their freshness for a new generation. At the same time, he himself had not heard the word from his students. The occasion was the recognition of the English word mogging as the 2026 word of the year by the Collins dictionary.
