Former deputy mayor of Yekaterinburg charged after child injured in shopping mall escalator
Ilya Borzenkov will be tried in the case of grievous bodily harm to a two-year-old boy whose arm was torn off by a shopping mall escalator on August 19, 2025. Investigators believe the mall owner cut corners on safety: he failed to appoint a person responsible for escalator operation and did not fix malfunctions. He faces up to six years in prison.
