«Tinubu Must Go»: pressure on dissent intensifies in northern Nigeria ahead of the 2027 elections
In Nigeria's Borno state, police arrested five men over T-shirts bearing the slogan «Tinubu Must Go», and in Kano state it blocked a meeting of supporters of the movement. Human rights defenders call this a crackdown on free speech; the police claim it is about a breach of public order. The movement opposes President Tinubu and is preparing for the elections in January 2027 against the backdrop of an economic crisis and instability in the north of the country.
