US Ends Funding for the American University of Afghanistan — One of the Last Places Where Women Can Study Is Under Threat
Washington denied the American University of Afghanistan (AUAF) a $25 million grant, citing 'repeated lack of accountability' in the use of funds. The university, where about three quarters of the roughly 1,000 students are women studying online despite the Taliban's ban on female education, may close. Former USAID director Patrick Fine rejected the accusations, calling them 'slander'.
