Arabiancairns project maps tens of thousands of ancient tombs in the UAE, Oman and Saudi Arabia
The international Arabiancairns project, funded by the French National Research Agency (ANR), has been documenting protohistoric funerary monuments on the Arabian Peninsula since 2022. In the Bisyah area of central Oman, about 5,500 tombs have been mapped over an area of 4,700 sq. km. The finds point to trade ties with Mesopotamia, Iran and Baluchistan, as well as similarities in funerary traditions with monuments in the UAE.
