UK Delays Equalization of Minimum Wage for Young People
Chancellor of the Exchequer John Healey suggested that the Labour Party's promise to eliminate the minimum wage gap for workers aged 18–20 might not be fulfilled before the next election. The 2026 budget retains the rate difference: £11.27 for young people versus £13.21 for older workers. Healey attributed the delay to the need to balance wages with employment levels and confirmed plans to reduce public spending by over 2% annually, raising doubts among independent analysts.
