A 10-hectare film city

On October 26, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a meeting with representatives of the film industry at the Uzbekfilm studio, during which he announced the creation of modern infrastructure for film production. A single industrial cluster — the Uzbekfilm Film City, bringing together film production services — will appear on the studio's 10-hectare territory. One of the key facilities will be a Dubbing and Voice-over Center equipped with modern technologies. As UzNews.uz reported, a qualified design organization will be engaged to develop the film city's master plan and design and estimate documentation within two months, and construction work will begin in March 2027. The President also instructed that unused state assets in the cinematography system be put up for open tender.

Film industry chamber, film scholars and AI

In addition to the film city, the head of state announced the creation of a Chamber of Film Industry Representatives on the basis of film unions. It will handle industry self-governance, protection of copyright and the professional interests of authors, and will also help young people develop skills and organize training abroad. The chamber's work is to be organized within a month. In addition, a Film Scholars Club will be created to develop professional film criticism, and the Uzbekfilm company will help it join the International Federation of Film Critics (FIPRESCI). Another initiative concerns technology: within the next month, a partnership program on the use of artificial intelligence in the industry is to be developed, providing for new educational programs and the training of specialists, including upgrading their qualifications abroad.

The Uzbekfilm brand and social measures

The President proposed establishing the name Uzbekfilm as a single brand of national cinema: it will be given to the Museum of Cinema Arts, the Palace of Cinema Arts (the former Panorama cinema), the National Film Fund, and a street in the Chilanzar district of Tashkent where the studio is located. The renovated Kukhinur sanatorium will be placed at the disposal of cinematography professionals, and every year 300 employees of film studios and industry organizations will be able to rest and receive treatment free of charge at sanatoriums in Uzbekistan. According to Spot.uz, Mirziyoyev had previously also instructed strengthening copyright protection with the help of AI. If the announced deadlines are met, construction of the infrastructure that, according to the head of state's assessment voiced at the meeting, the industry lacks for producing film products, will begin in Tashkent as early as March 2027.
