Rubio on Samarkand and partnership with Uzbekistan
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio published a video on his social media page in which he focused on the historical significance of Samarkand as an international trade center. According to him, the city's role as a global trade crossroads is being restored again today. He noted that Washington is expanding partnership ties around the world, and Uzbekistan occupies an important place in this process.
Hundreds of American companies in Uzbekistan
Rubio said that hundreds of American companies have arrived in Uzbekistan to conclude specific agreements and establish long-term cooperation. “Places that, like Samarkand, have historically played such an important role in global trade are rarely found on earth. It is a great honor for me to be here and not only recall history, but also reflect on the opportunities for the future,” the Secretary of State said. According to him, the US sees great opportunities for developing cooperation with Uzbekistan in the fields of trade, science and technology.
Context of the visit
As Kun.uz notes, Rubio previously stated that agreements worth billions of dollars were expected to be signed following the Tashkent visit, and emphasized the US interest in expanding trade and economic cooperation with Uzbekistan and the countries of the region.
