What the prosecutor general reported
Polish investigators found items bearing certain signs and symbols on the man who carried out a mass shooting on the Main Market Square in Kraków, but they have not yet been able to establish what drove him to carry out the attack. This was reported on November 8 by Poland's prosecutor general and minister of justice, Waldemar Żurek, RIA Novosti reports. 'As for the motives, it is still too early to draw conclusions,' the head of the agency said. The minister refused to disclose the content of the discovered symbolism, citing investigative secrecy: 'I cannot. That is an investigative secret.'
The course of the investigation and mourning
The shooting took place on November 7 in central Kraków. According to Life.ru, six people were killed and 16 more were wounded, including two police officers and the attacker himself. The Polish prosecutor's office is investigating the incident as a terrorist attack. The investigation covers two episodes: the first concerns the killing of six people and the attempted murder of others on the Main Market Square. In connection with the attack, November 8 and 9 have been declared days of national mourning in the country; the market square was reopened after the shooting on November 7.
What remains unknown
The key open question is the attacker's motive: the investigation has found the symbolism, but has not officially linked it to any ideology or organization. The contents of the items remain classified, and it is too early to draw conclusions about the nature of the crime beyond its classification as a terrorist attack — this is how the prosecutor general himself assessed the situation. The second episode of the investigation, apart from the events on the square, has not been disclosed in the published materials.
