The key facts

  • Trusova scored 221.27 points and finished second, landing a quadruple lutz in the free program
  • The victory went to Mone Chiba (224.48); third was Lee Hae-in (210.79)
  • Chen believes the judges gave preference to the Japanese figure skaters

Assessment of the judging

Vice world champion in athletics Yolanda Chen commented on the results of the ISU Figure Skating Grand Prix stage in China, where the Russian Alexandra Trusova finished second. According to Chen, as quoted by Sport24, the athlete was 'somewhat judged unfairly.' 'For some reason, very many people admire the Japanese girls, but that is not close to me. I often ask such people whether, a few years from now, they will remember even one of their programs. Tiba won yesterday, everyone praises her, but I find it hard to imagine that this program will stay in memory for many years,' Chen said.

Tournament results

In the combined total of two skates, Trusova scored 221.27 points, landing a quadruple lutz in the free program. The winner was Japan's Mone Chiba with a result of 224.48 points; third place went to Lee Hae-in of South Korea (210.79), and fourth to Anastasia Gubanova, competing for Georgia (208.58). The course of the competition was covered in the online broadcast of Gazeta. The gap between Trusova and Chiba was just over three points — it was precisely this small difference that became the subject of the dispute over the judging.

Context

For Trusova, this is one of her first competitions after Russian athletes were readmitted to events under the ISU umbrella: on June 30, the union published a press release on the admission of Russian athletes, starting from the 2026/27 season in a neutral status, in both individual and team competitions in figure skating, short track, and speed skating. Earlier, Olympic champion Natalia Bestemianova also stated that it was Trusova who should have won the Grand Prix in China.
