Police identify the victims found in the Krakow shooter's house
The three bodies discovered during a search of the home of the 24-year-old attacker in the town of Ostrowiec Swietokrzyski turned out to be his closest relatives — his father, mother and sister. This was reported by the Polish police, according to the PAP news agency. Initially, according to Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, they were believed to be only presumed relatives of the man; the police later clarified that the victims were most likely his parents and sister.
What is known about the course of events
Investigators are considering the version that the man first killed his family and then traveled to Krakow, where on November 7 he opened fire on passers-by on the Main Market Square. Six people were killed. During an attempt to detain him, the shooter engaged in a gunfight with police officers, was wounded and taken to hospital.
Weapons and details about the suspect
According to Polish media, the suspect's name is Michal O. He arrived at the scene of the attack in a car registered to his 52-year-old father. The shooter himself held a permit for two types of firearms, while his father owned 11 weapons. These details are consistent with the victims in the house being members of the car and gun owner's family.
Final death toll and mourning
Including the bodies found in the house, the tragedy claimed the lives of nine people. A national mourning period was declared in Poland for November 8 and 9. The Russian Embassy reported that a Russian citizen was wounded in the shooting in Krakow. The material is based on a Life.ru publication; the final results of the investigation, including official confirmation of the investigators' versions, have not yet been announced.
