Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and his wife Emine Erdogan arrived in Azerbaijan on Sunday to take part in the celebrations marking Victory Day, which is observed on November 8. The Anadolu agency reports this. At Fuzuli International Airport they were greeted by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and his wife Mehriban Aliyeva. During the welcome ceremony the leaders presented flowers to each other's spouses, and Aliyeva warmly embraced Emine Erdogan.
Program in Shusha and congratulations
After the welcome, the delegations headed to the governor's office in Shusha, where the Aliyev couple officially received Erdogan and his wife. Following a commemorative photo session, Emine Erdogan held a meeting with Mehriban Aliyeva, which was also attended by Leyla Aliyeva, daughter of the presidential couple. The first ladies then proceeded to the Khankendi Congress Center for an official dinner.
Words of remembrance for the fallen
On the eve of the visit, Emine Erdogan posted a congratulatory message on the Turkish social platform NSosyal. 'I wholeheartedly congratulate Azerbaijan on Victory Day, November 8, whose joy and pride we share. With mercy and gratitude, I remember all the heroes of fraternal Azerbaijan who gave their lives for this historic victory,' Anadolu quotes her as saying. She was referring to those who died in the 2020 Karabakh war, the end of which the November 8 holiday commemorates.
