The club has made commitments to the family
Spanish side Tenerife has promised to financially support the one-year-old daughter of the late forward Jesús de Miguel — the girl's name is Carla — at least until she turns 18. This was reported by the Daily Mail. The club's chief executive, Antonio Manuel Porro Granados, said the initiative belongs to the majority shareholder Raiko García and that the team intends to do more for the family than its legal obligations require; the management is also considering additional ways to help.
A public promise and a public fundraiser
García confirmed the promise publicly on 7 November at a memorial ceremony at the Heliodoro Rodríguez López stadium, assuring the relatives that Carla willnever be left alone. In addition to the club's support, footballer Fran Sol, who previously played for Tenerife, launched a GoFundMe fundraiser; Álvaro Morata and Álex Baena joined the campaign, and donations have already exceeded 150 thousand euros. According to the outlet, the family may also be entitled to basic compensation of around 300 thousand pounds sterling.
What is known about the tragedy and the investigation
The tragedy occurred on 2 November in a second-division match against Andorra: in the closing stages of the game, de Miguel collided with goalkeeper Jesús Owono, who had rushed out of his goal, lost consciousness after a knee strike to the chest, and his heart stopped. Medics restored his heartbeat, but on the morning of 3 November the 30-year-old footballer died in hospital. According to the Daily Mail, a preliminary autopsy report points to accidental chest trauma; his partner María Fernández and their daughter were in the stands. On 5 November de Miguel was buried in Navahermosa — teammates came to say farewell, along with Spain national team coach Luis de la Fuente and Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez.
The investigation and the goalkeeper's condition
Life.ru previously reported that Spanish law enforcement is examining the actions of the match participants and the provision of medical assistance; the very opening of an investigation does not imply that anyone is guilty. According to media reports, goalkeeper Jesús Owono is taking the incident very hard, has barely left his home, is receiving psychological support and has been considering ending his career.
