Search ends in Chuvashia after a Niva plunged into the Tsivil River: all five victims found

Search operation completed

In Chuvashia, the search has ended for five young people who died after a car plunged into the Tsivil River. Rescuers raised the sunken Niva from the riverbed; the bodies of the last two victims were found inside the cabin, the head of Novocheboksarsk reported Alexander Alekseev. Earlier, Emergencies Ministry personnel had recovered the bodies of three people from the water, after which the search operation was officially concluded. This was reported by Life.ru.

How events unfolded

The tragedy occurred near the industrial zone of Novocheboksarsk. There were three young men and two young women in the car; according to preliminary data, the SUV slid off the riverbank into the river and sank. The disappearance of the group became known after relatives of a 22-year-old local resident contacted the police: the young man had driven off with friends in the car and stopped responding. While examining the riverbank, law enforcement officers found traces of the vehicle and then located it underwater at a depth of about three to four meters. Earlier, as Life.ru reported, at the time the first three victims were found, the search for the other two was still ongoing.

What happens after the bodies were found

Investigators continue working at the scene: they must establish the circumstances of the car's plunge into the river. A criminal case has been opened over the deaths on charges of causing death by negligence to two or more persons. Emergencies Ministry specialists are providing psychological support to the victims' relatives. The city head expressed condolences to the families and called what happened an irreparable loss for Novocheboksarsk. The circumstances and causes of the car's fall into the water have not yet been officially established.
