The key facts

  • Overnight into November 8, 142 Ukrainian fixed-wing drones were shot down — over border regions, the Moscow region, Crimea and the Sea of Azov.
  • The night before, on November 7, the Defense Ministry reported 411 downed drones.
  • The ministry also claimed a strike on the Severny bridge near Kyiv, which was used for transferring military equipment.

Nighttime raid: 142 drones shot down

Russia's Ministry of Defense reported that air defense duty forces intercepted and destroyed 142 Ukrainian fixed-wing drones overnight into November 8. According to the ministry, the attacks were repelled across ten regions and over the Sea of Azov. This was reported by Life.ru and Gazeta.Ru citing the defense ministry.

Geography of the attacks

According to the Defense Ministry's list, drones were shot down over the Bryansk, Belgorod, Kursk, Tula, Kaluga, Voronezh, Oryol and Rostov regions, as well as in the Moscow region and the Republic of Crimea; some targets were destroyed over the Sea of Azov. Thus, both border territories and the central part of the country came under attack. The ministry classified all intercepted aircraft as fixed-wing drones.

Comparison with the previous night

This night's figure is noticeably lower than the previous one: overnight into November 7, the Defense Ministry reported 411 Ukrainian drones destroyed — at that time, as Life.ru wrote, the geography of the attacks stretched from the Bryansk region to the south of the country and included the waters of the Black and Azov Seas. Both figures come from the same ministry and cannot be independently verified from these publications.

Claim of a strike on a bridge near Kyiv

In addition to the interception report, Russia's Defense Ministry stated that Russian forces carried out a massive strike on Kyiv and the Kyiv region: according to the ministry, the Severny road bridge, which was used to transfer weapons and military equipment for the Ukrainian army, was hit. This information comes from the Russian defense ministry; the Ukrainian side, in the cited publications, did not comment on either the raid or the strike on the bridge.
