Accusations of paid posts
Pro-Trump blogger and activist Laura Loomer has been accused of paid political tweets — as reported by Gazeta.Ru citing The Washington Post. Alex Bruesewitz, an adviser to Trump's 2024 election campaign, and three other anonymous clients said the woman earned at least $60,000 for political posts on her X (formerly Twitter) account while concealing that they were advertising. Two of the outlet's sources specified that Loomer charges between $3,000 and $5,000 per tweet, and sometimes more.
Loomer's own position
Loomer herself described herself as a journalist and activist and denied that she is an influencer paid to promote a political agenda. According to her, Bruesewitz allegedly paid her to write a short research report, which she did, later distributing the document.
Influence and legal context
The 33-year-old Loomer traveled with Trump and met with him privately in the Oval Office during his second presidential term. Detractors within the administration, the outlet notes, complained that several senior officials at the Defense Department and in national security were fired after public criticism from the blogger. Her X account has 1.9 million followers. At the same time, the US Federal Trade Commission rule requiring bloggers to disclose information about advertising payments does not apply to political posts — a circumstance that explains why such payments, as described by The Washington Post's sources, may formally fall outside advertising disclosure requirements.
