Train cars derail near Giza
On November 8, in northern Egypt, in the area of the city of El-Ayat in Giza province, four cars of a passenger train derailed, after which the train overturned. According to preliminary data, about 150 people sustained injuries — fractures and bruises. This was reported by the local outlet Masrawy, which is cited by Life.ru.
Rescue operations and the number of victims
The injured are being taken to the nearest hospitals; most patients are being admitted to medical facilities in El-Ayat and Beni Suef. More than 50 ambulances were deployed for the evacuation, and local residents are helping to transport the wounded in their private vehicles. A source for Masrawy noted that the number of victims is not yet final and may increase: the count is complicated because people are being taken from the scene in ambulances and private cars. Police cordoned off the area to give medics access to the damaged cars. Hospitals in the region have been placed on heightened alert — this is also reported by Gazeta.Ru.
Investigation
The head of the security directorate of Giza province arrived at the scene of the accident Hatem Hassan. Egypt's Attorney General ordered the investigative team to examine the scene, establish the circumstances of the derailment, and clarify the number of victims. The cause of the accident has not been named in any of the available reports so far.
Russian tourists
The Russian Union of Travel Industry told TASSthat there were no tourists from Russia on the derailed train: after contacting tour operators, the union received no information about Russians on board.
