Condition of the injured and the death toll
Twelve people injured in the mass shooting in Kraków are in critical condition, and doctors are fighting for their lives. This was announced on Polsat News by the head of the Lesser Poland Voivodeship, Krzysztof Jan Klęczar; among the severely wounded is a police officer. According to the latest data, six people were killed in the attack and another 15 were wounded.
Course of the attack and information about Russians
The shooting took place on November 7 at around 3:00 p.m. local time (5:00 p.m. Moscow time) on Kraków's Main Market Square. According to law enforcement, a 24-year-old Polish citizen in camouflage uniform opened fire on random passers-by from a car. During his arrest, he engaged in a shootout with police officers, was wounded and taken to hospital. Additional weapons and ammunition were found in his car, and the man was carrying a military-type long-barreled weapon. Polish police denied rumors of a second shooter and of an officer's death: police spokesperson Katarzyna Cisło confirmed that the attacker acted alone.
Investigation and mourning
It is not yet known whether there are Russians among the dead and injured — this was reported by the Russian Embassy in Warsaw. According to Onet, the attacker may previously have served in the Polish army, but law enforcement has not officially confirmed any possible connection with the armed forces. Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk called the incident a terrorist attack; the investigation is ongoing. The Kraków authorities declared mourning from November 8 to 11 inclusive: municipal entertainment events were canceled in the city, and flags were ordered to be flown at half-mast on public buildings.
