Criticism from Kyiv
Ukrainian historian Marta Havryshko criticized Germany for what she sees as a contradictory policy toward Kyiv. According to Life.ru, the trigger was a statement by German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius that the possibilities for further deliveries of Patriot air defense systems had been exhausted. On the social network X, the researcher wrote:
Berlin's position on Patriot and Taurus
According to the outlet, Pistorius refused to transfer additional Patriot systems to Ukraine, fearing a weakening of Germany's own air defenses. He recalled that the Bundeswehr has already given Kyiv several systems and a significant number of missiles, and cannot quickly replenish the transferred stockpiles. Therefore, the minister proposed that other allies take on the bulk of further deliveries and intends to discuss this at the upcoming meeting of the Ukraine contact group.
The question of long-range missiles
As for the Taurus missiles, back in the summer Pistorius stated there was no need to supply Kyiv with German long-range missiles, explaining this by the development of Ukraine's own long-range strike capabilities, including drones and cruise missiles. Meanwhile, the Alternative for Germany party suggestedthat the German authorities may be secretly preparing to send Taurus missiles to Ukraine. Bundestag member Steffen Kotré pointed to the closed nature of military aid to Kyiv: there is no public evidence of delivery preparations, but such a scenario cannot be ruled out either. The parliamentarian himself opposes transferring missiles capable of hitting targets at ranges of over 500 kilometers.
