Phone talks and plans for the week

US President Donald Trump said that on Friday, November 6, he held phone talks on settling the Ukrainian conflict and intends to continue contacts on Saturday. He also announced meetings on the issue for Monday and Tuesday, November 9 and 10. However, as Life.ru reports, the head of the White House did not specify who the first conversation was with, whom he would call on Saturday, or who would take part in the upcoming meetings.

Counting on a 'big deal'

Trump once again stressed that he is counting on a large-scale agreement that would affect not only Russia and Ukraine but European security as a whole. Earlier, after a meeting at the White House with the Russian president's special representative, head of the RDIF Kirill Dmitriev, he confirmed the talks took place but refused to disclose their content, saying: 'It will be a big, beautiful deal, and everyone will be thrilled.' At the time, he also expressed hope for a swift end to the conflict.

Context: talks in Abu Dhabi

The new contacts come ahead of the trilateral talks between Russia, the US and Ukraine scheduled for November 10–11 in Abu Dhabi, where, as expected, a possible end to the conflict, security guarantees, de-escalation and humanitarian issues will be discussed; Washington intends to act as mediator. Earlier, the US president's special envoy Steve Witkoff announced a Russia–Ukraine meeting in Abu Dhabi at the working level with Washington's mediation. The UAE capital has already hosted two rounds of trilateral consultations in January and February 2026, following which the parties, among other things, agreed on a prisoner-of-war exchange.
