What happened in Krakow
A shooting took place in central Krakow, on the main market square: a man who drove onto the square in a car opened fire on people and also shot at a tram. This was reported by Kun.uz citing Polish newspapers, magazines and TV channels.
The dead and the wounded
Jan Klenchar, the head of the Lesser Poland Voivodeship, said on Polsat News that six people were killed and another 12 are in serious condition. The police later specified the composition of the victims: among the dead are four women and two men. According to Poland's Interior Minister Marcin Kervinsky, two police officers were also wounded, and one of them is in critical condition.
One shooter or two: conflicting versions
Initially, the PAP news agency and the TVN24 channel reported that two people had carried out the shooting. The police later refuted this version: a statement on the social network X says that the perpetrator of the incident on the main square is one person — a citizen of Poland — and the agency rejects reports of a killed police officer and a second suspect being sought. «The only perpetrator known to us is in the hands of the police,» the statement says, as quoted by Kun.uz.
The shooter's fate
According to the Onet publication, the shooter is 24 years old. He was detained by the police and, being seriously wounded, was hospitalized. The motives of the attacker are not reported in the available publications; the final data on the number of victims and the circumstances of the incident may be updated.
