A farewell from Longmeadow
TV presenter and gardener Monty Don presented his final episode of Gardeners' World on BBC on Friday, 6 November, ending more than two decades on the programme. (as reported by BBC News).
What is confirmed and what is not
Although it was the final episode of the main programme, Don is not leaving the screen entirely: in the episode he confirmed that he will remain among the presenters of next year's RHS Chelsea Flower Show, and will also appear in two winter specials, which are expected to air before Christmas. One of them will be devoted to a look back at his work on the programme and the changes at Longmeadow. Meanwhile, the BBC said that details of the next series of Gardeners' World will be announced later, and Don's successor has not yet been named. Bookmakers and viewers name regular co-presenters Frances Tophill and Adam Frost as likely candidates, but Tophill herself, according to the BBC, played down expectations that she would take his place.
23 years at the BBC
Don began presenting Gardeners' World in 2003, succeeding Alan Titchmarsh — at Titchmarsh's own request, as the BBC notes. The BBC reported as early as May 2020. Before Gardeners' World, Don presented Tomorrow's World and Holiday, and in 2008, after a minor stroke, he took a three-year break from working on the programme. He announced his departure in September this year, calling his work on the show
