The key facts
- The 330 kV 'Severnaya' substation in the Vyshhorod district of the Kyiv region was struck
- The Ministry of Defense claims the facility supplied power to military production
- This is already the third strike on the region's energy hubs in a week: Trypilska TPP, 'Kyivska', 'Novokyivska', 'Nalyvaikivka', 'Chyzhovka' and the battery storage park in Bila Tserkva
Strike on the 'Severnaya' substation
Russian forces struck the 'Severnaya' 330 kV electrical substation near Novi Petrivtsi in the Kyiv region, Russia's Ministry of Defense reported on November 7. According to the ministry, the high-voltage facility was involved in supplying electricity to Ukrainian military-industrial enterprises. As Life.ru notes, Novi Petrivtsi is located north of Kyiv, in the Vyshhorod district, and 330 kV-class substations are among the major network hubs through which electricity is transmitted for further distribution among consumers.
A series of strikes on the region's energy facilities
The strike on 'Severnaya' fits into a series of attacks on energy infrastructure in the Kyiv and neighboring regions that the Ministry of Defense and Life.ru reported over the past week. Earlier on November 7, the ministry announced it had struck the Trypilska Thermal Power Plant and the 750 kV 'Kyivska' substation, which, according to its data, were also used to support the Ukrainian army. Before that, on October 30, a strike was reported on the 'Novokyivska' substation in Khotiv, on November 4 — on the 'Nalyvaikivka' and 'Chyzhovka' substations in the Kyiv and Zhytomyr regions, and on November 6 a battery energy storage park in Bila Tserkva.
What is known and what remains unclear
All information about the targets and nature of the strikes comes from Russia's Ministry of Defense; the publications themselves contain no independent assessment of the extent of the damage or data on the consequences for power supply. Notably, however, the listed facilities differ in type: alongside generation (the Trypilska Thermal Power Plant) and classic 330–750 kV distribution substations, the energy storage facility in Bila Tserkva — an element typically used for grid balancing — was also reportedly attacked. This suggests coverage of different links in the region's power system, although the actual impact on electricity supply cannot be verified from the published materials.
