The queue will be cut by 20,000
Russian Defense Minister Andrei Belousov stated that by the end of 2026 the queue of servicemen waiting to receive housing will shrink by 20,000 people. According to him, this will happen thanks to the commissioning of a whole series of residential buildings. The statement was made on November 7 at the ceremony of handing over a new apartment building in the Moscow region, reports Life.ru.
A new building in the Moscow region
The residential complex handed over on November 7 has 334 apartments and is intended for servicemen and their family members. The Defense Ministry calls providing servicemen with apartments one of its priority areas of work.
Comparison with last year
The scale of the announced reduction noticeably exceeds the 2025 result: back then the queue for permanent housing shrank by only 1,200 people, while almost 17,000 servicemen received service apartments. At the time, the ministry also noted the need to speed up construction and make housing more accessible to servicemen. Thus, if the 2026 plan is fulfilled, the reduction of the queue will be more than sixteen times larger than last year's — however, this is so far the minister's statement, not a confirmed result.
Military mortgage
In addition to receiving apartments from the ministry, servicemen can purchase real estate through the savings-and-mortgage system. Life.ru previously gave a detailed account of the terms of the military mortgage in 2026, including the available amounts, requirements for program participants, and the specifics of obtaining a housing loan.
