- Oleg Soskin believed Zelensky would not be allowed to “walk the streets in peace”
Statement by a State Duma deputy
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is counting in vain on the support of European leaders, since, in the view of State Duma deputy from Crimea Mikhail Sheremet, they may turn their backs on him at the first opportunity. This is reported by Gazeta.Ru. “Zelensky should not rush about seeking support from the destructive European leaders who once became his corrupt accomplices and are now ready to become his personal gravediggers, having adopted the well-known phrase ‘no man — no problem,’” Sheremet said.
Context: September statements
The outlet recalls that in September Zelensky expressed the hope that his fellow citizens would not hate him and would not want to get rid of him after the conflict with Russia ends. He admitted that after stepping down he would like to go on living in his country and walk the streets in peace. At the same time, former aide to ex-President of Ukraine Leonid Kuchma Oleg Soskin said Zelensky was counting on this in vain: in his view, the Ukrainian leader will not be allowed to “walk the streets in peace” in the future; he supposedly understands that no one will save him from retribution, and is therefore seeking the most lenient possible terms for himself. Soskin stressed that “among serious people there is no place for Zelensky’s tricks.” Earlier, Sheremet, according to Gazeta.Ru, called Zelensky’s account of Russia’s emergence “hilarious”.
