Ukraine's capital was plunged into darkness

On November 5, Kyiv faced large-scale power supply disruptions: most of the city was left without electricity, and street lighting almost completely disappeared. This was reported by the Ukrinform news agency. According to journalists, in some districts on the right bank of the Dnipro, authorities introduced emergency and scheduled blackout shutdowns, leaving a significant part of the capital in darkness.

What is visible in the footage and what authorities say

The agency published a video showing a panorama of Kyiv's residential neighborhoods: most buildings and streets remain unlit, lights are on only in individual apartments, and traffic lights continue to work at some intersections. Earlier, Volodymyr Zelensky said that as a result of attacks in Ukraine all power plants have been damaged, and called strikes on the energy sector one of the country's biggest problems. According to him, Ukraine lacks the equipment needed to restore power supply — transformers, power cables, and generators.
