Verdict after a fall from the 15th floor
In Yekaterinburg, a court has passed a verdict on a mother whose son was injured in a fall from the 15th floor. This was reported by Gazeta.Ru citing the regional prosecutor's office. The woman was charged with leaving a child in danger and causing harm to health through negligence; she was sentenced to ten months of corrective labor, with 5% of her earnings to be deducted as state revenue.
What the investigation established
According to the investigation, on the day of the incident the mother left home on errands and left the boy, born in 2021, alone. The window restrictors were not locked, even though the woman knew the child had already tried to open the windows several times. “As a result, on the morning of May 13, 2026, the child, left alone, opened the window and, unable to hold on, fell out of it”, the prosecutor's office is quoted as saying in the publication. The child survived the fall, but doctors assessed the harm to his health as grave; the nature of the injuries is not specified.
Context
Earlier, a similar case was reported in Moscow: a two-year-old girl survived a fall from a window. The verdict in Yekaterinburg shows that liability for such incidents can arise not only when a child dies, but also in cases of grave harm to health, if an adult left a small child unsupervised and failed to ensure window safety.
