What happened

In Orenburg, a 22-year-old man has been detained on suspicion of murdering his own newborn son. According to the investigation, on the morning of November 3, in one of the apartments on Sovetskaya Street, he blocked the infant's airways, depriving him of the ability to breathe; the child could not be saved. This was reported by the regional directorate of the Investigative Committee of Russia, reports Life.ru.

Progress of the investigation

A criminal case has been opened under subparagraph 'v' of Part 2 of Article 105 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation — the murder of a minor. The investigation has petitioned the court to place the suspect in custody. A scene examination has been carried out and forensic examinations have been ordered; the investigation continues. The final classification of the charges and conclusions about the motives will become known as the investigation proceeds — at this point, only the investigation's version has been presented.

A similar case in Kirov Region

This is a separate case: earlier, the same outlet reported that in Kirov Region, a young mother was accused of murdering her two-month-old son. According to the investigation, her 42-year-old cohabitant helped conceal traces of the crime and dispose of the child's body; a criminal case has also been opened against him. The two cases are connected only by the type of crime — accusations of infants dying at the hands of relatives — but these are separate incidents in different regions.
