Fire at refinery and new strikes on Ukraine
On the night of November 6, 2026, according to reports from Euronews, a fire broke out at the Afipsky oil refinery in Krasnodar Krai following a drone attack: photos and videos showing black smoke over the facility circulated on social media. Ukrainian forces had previously attacked this plant repeatedly; according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, it processes about 6.25 million tons of oil per year, and according to Ukraine's Main Intelligence Directorate, it supplies fuel to the Russian army.
Context of the oil refining campaign
As the outlet notes, after a short pause, Kyiv last week resumed strikes on Russian oil refineries, despite pressure from Washington to halt such attacks. US President Donald Trump claimed that strikes on Russian plants were to blame for the rise in global diesel prices, shifting the focus away from the war in Iran. This year, Ukraine has intensified strikes on Russia's energy sector — plants, terminals and storage facilities — seeking to hit a key source of Moscow's revenue.
Casualties and destruction in Ukraine
According to the Ukrainian Air Force, from Thursday evening to Friday morning Russian forces launched 227 drones; preliminary data indicate that by 8 a.m. 196 Shahed-type drones (70 of them jet-powered), Gerber and other types had been shot down or neutralized, with about 15 remaining in the air. The head of the Rivne regional military administration, Oleksandr Koval, reported one person killed in the morning attack on the region. The head of the Kyiv regional administration, Timur Tkachenko, wrote on Telegram that three people were injured in the Boryspil district: a fire broke out in a private residential house and an outbuilding, both structures were completely destroyed; energy infrastructure was also damaged in the Bila Tserkva and Obukhiv districts.
