Tiger in a residential village
An Amur tiger entered the village of Solontsovy in Khabarovsk Krai and dragged away two dogs — this was reported by the administration of the Lazovsky district, whose comment is cited by RIA Novosti (as also reported by Gazeta.Ru). According to Life.ru, local residents first spotted the predator near residential houses, filmed it on video and called wildlife protection officers.
What is visible in the footage and what is known about the animal's behaviour
The video of the Amur tiger in Solontsovy shows a large predator unhurriedly walking down the street along the fences of residential houses, and then turning into a yard. According to Gazeta.Ru, citing RIA Novosti, the animal walked along the houses and got through a broken fence into the grounds of an abandoned building; according to this account, it paid no attention to people. It later emerged that the predator had carried off the dogs.
What wildlife officers plan to do
Wildlife officers are searching for the tiger that was roaming the village. According to TASS, the plan is to capture the animal and relocate it to a place safe for it. The publications do not report any injuries among people; it remains unclear exactly where the predator is at the moment.
Similar incidents in the region
This is not the only recent tiger appearance in a populated area of Khabarovsk Krai: on 17 September the animal appeared on the territory of the settlement of Selo Mayak in the area of Molodyozhnaya Street, after which residents were urged not to leave their homes after dark, not to let children outside, and to lock up livestock and dogs overnight. Gazeta.Ru also mentions an earlier case in which a tiger ate a keeper on the territory of a reserve included in the UNESCO list; the details of that incident are not disclosed in the cited publications.
