The key facts

  • Stanislav Cherchesov left Akhmat on November 2 by mutual agreement of the parties
  • Zaza Janashia called the club's decision hasty and said he would have kept the coach in his post
  • Rolan Gusev has become Akhmat's new head coach

The former Lokomotiv player criticized the club's decision

Former Lokomotiv footballer Zaza Janashia believes that Grozny's Akhmat should have given Stanislav Cherchesov more time to work with the team. In his view, the club's leadership rushed into dismissing the coach, who could have turned the situation around — he said this in an interview with Championat.

The essence of Janashia's position

“Cherchesov is a good coach. I don't know why Russian coaches get replaced while foreigners stay”, Janashia noted. He stressed that building a strong team takes time, and that the specialist has extensive coaching experience and has been through many trials behind him. If he were the club's president, the footballer would have kept the coach in his post.

Context of the dismissal

The personnel decision itself was made on November 2: Cherchesov left the post of Akhmat head coach by mutual agreement of the parties, Life.ru reports. He returned to Grozny in August 2025, having previously led the team from 2011 to 2013. His successor was Rolan Gusev, who had previously worked with Moscow's Dynamo. Thus, Janashia's comment is an assessment of a coaching change that has already taken place, not a discussion of a possible decision: the question of Cherchesov's future at the club is closed, and the debate concerns only how justified this step was.
