The key facts
- Over nine months, the US supplied Russia with $2.9 million worth of food additives — 3.3 times more than a year earlier.
- In September, supplies grew 5.2-fold compared with August and 5.4-fold compared with September 2025, to $481.4 thousand.
- At the same time, supplies of American clothing to Russia in September fell by 17% — a 14-month low.
Sharp increase in additive supplies
In the first three quarters of 2026, the United States supplied Russia with more than three times as many flavor and aroma food additives as in the same period last year. This is reported by Gazeta.Ru citing data from US customs published by RIA Novosti. The volume of supplies of aromatic substance mixtures for the food industry amounted to $2.9 million — 3.3 times higher than in the same period of 2025.
September surge
The growth was especially noticeable in September: supplies to Russia increased 5.2-fold compared with August and 5.4-fold compared with September last year, reaching $481.4 thousand. At the same time, Russia remains a minor buyer against the backdrop of overall US exports of aromatic additives, which amounted to $1.49 billion over nine months. The main buyers of US products were Canada, Mexico, Ireland, Brazil, and Switzerland.
Clothing — the opposite trend
For another product category, the dynamics are the opposite: in September, supplies of clothing from the US to Russia fell by 17%to $3.03 million — the lowest figure in the last fourteen months, as reported earlier. Despite the September decline, total clothing exports over the three quarters grew 1.7-fold, amounting to $35.9 million. Thus, the growth of bilateral trade in these categories is uneven: additives are accelerating, including based on the results of the last month, whereas for clothing September proved a failure against the backdrop of overall growth over the year.
