The key facts
- A laboratory for disassembling captured equipment and downed UAVs operates within the Sever group of forces
- Software, drone routes, satellite systems, communication stations, and operating frequencies are studied
- It was previously reported that the Ukrainian ground robot Lyut 2.0 was captured in the Sumy region
A laboratory in the Sever (North) group of forces
Downed Ukrainian drones and captured weapons have become not only trophies for Russian reconnaissance personnel but also material for their own technical solutions. A special laboratory operates within the Sever group of forces, where specialists disassemble incoming samples, study their electronic components, and modify the equipment to suit unit needs. This was reported to TASS by the commander of the 74th Separate Reconnaissance Battalion, call sign Garpun; a report on the laboratory was published on Life.ru.
What exactly is being studied
According to Garpun, the laboratory receives both captured Ukrainian Armed Forces equipment and drones downed by Russian troops. Specialists disassemble the devices and examine their equipment, with particular attention paid to the software: it is 'hacked' to find out what data is embedded in the control systems and what flight routes the devices used. Electronic components are also analyzed — the satellite systems used, the installed communication stations, and the operating frequencies. 'The guys do all of this in our laboratory,' the reconnaissance battalion commander emphasized.
Modernization and a captured robot
The battalion commander said that specialists develop some solutions themselves, while certain technologies are studied using the enemy's equipment as an example. 'We learn some things from the enemy, intercept some things, modernize them for our own use, improve them, and keep up with the times, so in any case reconnaissance is always ahead,' Life.ru quoted him as saying. After modernization, the captured samples are adapted to the needs of the units.
The captured Lyut 2.0
Earlier, Life.ru reported that Russian troops had captured a Ukrainian ground robotic system, the Lyut 2.0,in the Sumy region. According to a fighter of the Sever group with the call sign Fanat, the vehicle, which the Ukrainian Armed Forces used to deliver ammunition, food, and conduct terrain reconnaissance, was spotted by drone system operators; the armored wheeled robot was immobilized and taken as a trophy.
