Safe landing in Brussels

A LOT Polish Airlines passenger flight from Warsaw to Brussels landed safely at Brussels Airport on Thursday after authorities received a suspicious message concerning the flight. According to Belgian public broadcaster VRT, the message arrived shortly before the scheduled landing time. The airport said the Federal Police immediately carried out a risk assessment in line with established procedures. “After the Federal Police investigation, no additional measures were deemed necessary. The aircraft has since landed safely,” the airport’s press service said.

Context: a wave of messages across Europe

On the same Thursday, several aircraft were reportedly diverted or made precautionary landings in France, Italy, the Czech Republic, Bulgaria and Austria. Police are investigating whether the Brussels incident was connected to similar messages about aircraft across Europe earlier in the week, when, according to reports, at least seven flights received bomb threats requiring an emergency response, although no explosive substances were found during inspections of the aircraft. At this stage, only the fact of the safe landing and the check carried out has been confirmed; conclusions about any link between the incidents and the week-long series of threats remain the subject of a police investigation.
