KPRF initiative to move the indexation date
KPRF deputies proposed moving the annual indexation of insurance pensions from February 1 to January 1. As TASS reported citing Yuri Afonin, First Deputy Chairman of the party's Central Committee, the bill will be sent to the Government of Russia for review. The initiative complements a bill previously submitted by the faction on changing the calculation of the annual indexation; moving the date would allow pensioners to receive increased payments as early as January.
Rationale and current procedure
“We all know how holiday spending hits the wallet, how prices skyrocket before the New Year. It would be much better if pensioners received their pension with an increase already in January,” Afonin said. According to him, the current procedure provides for the indexation of insurance pensions from February 1 based on the growth of consumer prices, and an increase from April 1 depending on the revenues of the Social Fund. The proposed changes have not yet been adopted.
What already happened in 2026
In 2026, insurance pensions were raised from January 1 — by 7.6%. Earlier, deputy Alexey Govyrin told Life.ru that the recalculation covered old-age, disability and survivor benefits and was carried out automatically. Thus, the faction's initiative would essentially make permanent the indexation date that was already applied in 2026; however, at this point it is merely a bill being sent to the government for review, not an adopted decision.
