A criminal case has been opened in Krasnoyarsk Krai after a 71-year-old man wounded his 23-year-old hunting partner, mistaking him for a fox. This was reported by the UMVD for Krasnoyarsk Krai and the Republic of Khakassia on its Telegram channel; the incident took place in the Minusinsk district, where three residents of the village of Kavkazsky had gone hunting.

How it happened

According to the police, after reaching the meeting point, the hunters split up in three directions. The 71-year-old participant heard his 58-year-old friend fire several shots and decided that a fox was running toward him. He opened fire on the supposed animal but hit the third partner — a 23-year-old man, who suffered a severe gunshot wound to the leg.

Aid to the victim and the criminal case

Media outlets differ on the details of where the wounded man was taken: Gazeta.Ru writes that the hunters took him to a hospital where he received first aid, while Life.ru reports that the victim was first brought to a paramedic station, then hospitalized, and later flown by medical aircraft to Krasnoyarsk. Details about the young man's condition have not been disclosed. A criminal case has been opened under Part 1 of Article 118 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation — causing grievous bodily harm by negligence; the circumstances of the incident are being established.

Similar incidents

This is not the first such incident recently: in Novosibirsk Oblast, a hunter also aimed at a fox but hit an acquaintance, who was hospitalized with gunshot wounds to the thighs and scrotum — this happened near the village of Osintsevo. In addition, in Stavropol Krai, a 36-year-old man who found a rifle in a house he had bought and modified it shot himself in the cheek while 'testing' the weapon, not knowing there was already a bullet inside.
