The key facts
- Prime members in the US will be able to order food through Uber Eats directly in Amazon without creating an Uber account

- The agreement with Grubhub, in effect since 2022, ended on the day of the announcement
What changes for Prime members
Amazon announced on Thursday that Uber Eats is becoming the official restaurant food delivery partner for Prime members in the US, effectively ending the existing agreement with Grubhub. This was reported by TechCrunch. Orders can now be placed directly through Amazon.com and the Amazon Shopping app: no separate Uber account is needed, and there is no delivery fee on orders over $25. To launch the partnership, the companies are giving Prime members a $20 discount on their first order of $25 or more during the first two weeks.
The end of the four-year partnership with Grubhub
The commercial agreement with Grubhub, which gave Prime members access to a Grubhub+ subscription, ended on Thursday, an Amazon representative told the publication; the company said it constantly evaluates third-party offers and found an opportunity to offer a better food delivery experience. The partnership began in 2022, when Amazon started offering Prime members a free Grubhub+ subscription. Two years later, the agreement was expanded: the free subscription became a permanent offer, and Amazon agreed with Grubhub's then-owner, Just Eat Takeaway.com, to increase its stake in the delivery service to 18%. Under the annually renewable agreement, Amazon could receive warrants for an additional stake, but according to Just Eat Takeaway's annual report, in December 2024 the company decided to cash in the existing warrants. The commercial partnership, however, continued until now. Grubhub could not be reached for comment before publication.
Expanding Amazon and Uber ties
The new partnership deepens the already extensive ties between the two companies: they have agreements on cloud computing, the Zoox robotaxi service, and the integration of Uber Eats into Amazon's Alexa+ voice assistant. According to Amazon, the Uber Eats integration into Alexa+ has already been announced in the company's materials about the assistant. For Amazon, switching partners is a way to add one more perk to the annual Prime subscription, TechCrunch notes.
