Gorbacheva included in the roster of the tournament in Tokyo
Russian figure skater Alina Gorbacheva has received an invitation to the Japanese leg of the International Skating Union (ISU) Grand Prix series. The Figure Skating Federation of Russia confirmed the athlete's participation — its general secretary Alexander Kogan said: 'Gorbacheva has received an invitation to the Grand Prix of Japan. We have confirmed her participation.' This was reported by Life.ru and Gazeta.Ru citing TASS.
How the spot opened up and what is known about the skater's form
The spot in the entry list opened up after Finnish figure skater Olivia Lisko withdrew from the event. Gorbacheva was first in line as a substitute, Life.ru notes. For the 19-year-old athlete, the tournament in Tokyo will be her first Grand Prix event of the season. In October she won a Challenger Series event in Budapest: according to ISU data, her total of 203.35 points across two programs was her best result; Gazeta.Ru specifies that she received 130.33 points for the free program.
Who else will compete in Tokyo and when the tournament will take place
In the women's singles event in Tokyo, besides Gorbacheva, two more Russian figure skaters are entered — Adelia Petrosyan and Vladislava Dikidzhi. According to Life.ru, Petrosyan received an invitation after finishing second at a Challenger Series event in Georgia; Gazeta.Ru links her invitation to the withdrawal of a South Korean athlete, whose spot opened up in the list. Russian figure skaters compete at international events under the auspices of the ISU in a neutral status: as TASS reminds, citing a press release from the union, on June 30 the ISU announced the admission of Russian athletes to its events from the 2026/27 season, including individual and team competitions in figure skating, short track and speed skating. The outlets give different dates for the competition: Life.ru — from November 27 to 29, Gazeta.Ru — November 27–28.
