Warning to port operators
New Jersey Governor Mikie Sherrill announced on Monday that she had sent a letter to the state's port and terminal operators warning that importing Russian diesel fuel may violate federal law and expose companies to serious civil and criminal liability. “Today I sent a letter putting New Jersey's port and terminal operators on notice: importing Russian diesel violates federal law and can carry serious civil and criminal consequences,” — the Anadolu agency quotes her as saying citing the governor's post on X.
Accusations against Trump and the governor's position
Sherrill accused US President Donald Trump of supporting Russian leader Vladimir Putin at the expense of American interests and said that importing Russian diesel could financially support Moscow's military campaign and contribute to growing security threats. “Instead of lowering costs, these imports help fund Putin's war against Ukraine and his campaign of violence and terror that endangers our service members abroad. As a Navy veteran, I cannot let this go unanswered. Our ports must not be complicit,” the agency quotes her as saying. The governor added that the state will not allow its ports to facilitate imports that could bring financial benefit to Russia amid the ongoing war against Ukraine.
