What happened and what punishment was imposed

The Shaykhantahur district criminal court considered the case of 24-year-old M. K. According to the case materials, while in a state of alcohol intoxication, he caught his neighbor's cat in the entrance hall, strangled the animal and twisted its paw. At a private veterinary clinic, the cat was diagnosed with a crack in the left front paw. The court found the man guilty of an offense under Part 2 of Article 111 of the Administrative Code of Uzbekistan (cruelty to animals) and imposed 7 days of administrative arrest, UzNews.uz reports.

Discrepancies in the details

The publications give differing details of the incident. According to Gazeta, citing the 'Millar' program of the 'Milliy' TV channel, the incident occurred on October 28, 2023 at the entrance of one of the multi-story residential buildings in the Shaykhantahur district, and the cat was named Simba; according to the veterinary report, it had a bone crack in the front left paw. UzNews.uz, on the contrary, describes the location as an entrance hall and does not indicate the date of the event. The defendant himself explained in court that he wanted to film a video with the cat and did not intend to harm it, and did not notice the injury due to intoxication. He expressed remorse, assured that this would not happen again, and asked the court for leniency. The punishment is the same in both reports: 7 days of administrative arrest under the same article of the Administrative Code.
