Large drug stash found in a shed
In Primorsky Krai, police seized more than 136 kilograms of marijuana from a private household, reported the press service of the regional department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. The suspect turned out to be a 41-year-old local resident who came to the attention of law enforcement during the operational and preventive operation Poppy.
How the check was carried out
Operational information about the possible storage of prohibited substances was received by officers of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs department for the Pogranichny District. After verifying the information, law enforcement officers inspected a household in the village of Talovoy: in an outbuilding on the property they found a large batch of plant material, which was sent for examination. The analysis confirmed it was cannabis (marijuana), and the total weight of the batch exceeded 136 kilograms — under Russian law this qualifies as an especially large quantity.
What the suspect faces
A criminal case has been opened over the find under Part 3 of Article 228 of the Russian Criminal Code — illegal acquisition, storage, transportation, manufacture or processing of narcotic substances in an especially large quantity. The maximum penalty under this provision is 15 years of imprisonment; proceedings in the case are ongoing.
