Statement by the Joint Forces
The Joint Forces of Sudan — a coalition of armed movements fighting alongside the national army against the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) — announced on Tuesday the death of one of their operations commanders. According to the Sudan News agency, citing the forces, Brigadier General Haroun Moursal Abu Tikka was killed in the Um-Shaira area of North Kordofan state.
What is known about the deceased and the conflict
According to the Joint Forces, the general took part in a number of battles and on military fronts, including in Khartoum and North Kordofan, but no details or date of his death have been disclosed. The coalition consists of movements that signed a peace agreement with the government in Khartoum in October 2020; its main components are the Sudan Liberation Movement led by Minni Arko Minnawi and the Justice and Equality Movement headed by Jibril Ibrahim. Clashes between the army and the RSF in the three states of the Kordofan region — North, West and South — have been ongoing since October 25. The war between the army and the RSF has been going on since April 2023; according to UN and international organizations' estimates, it has claimed thousands of lives and displaced about 13 million people.
