Fire in a private house claims the lives of two people

Two people died in a fire in a private house in Usolye-Sibirskoye, Irkutsk Region. This was reported by the regional department of the Emergencies Ministry of Russia; the incident is also covered by Life.ru. A report of a fire in a timber house on Ostrovsky Street came in to 112 on Sunday at 06:20 local time. 18 firefighters and four water tankers were dispatched to the scene. During reconnaissance, a gas and smoke protection service crew found the bodies of the homeowners inside the building — a man born in 1952 and a woman born in 1956.

Preliminary version and weekend statistics

The fire covered an area of 108 square meters. According to the investigators' preliminary version, the fire started due to a faulty stove heating system: presumably, the wall caught fire from the boiler, after which the flames spread to the ceiling structure and the roof. The Emergencies Ministry also noted that the house had no smoke detector, which could have warned the residents of the fire at an early stage. In total, 24 fires were extinguished in the Irkutsk Region over the weekend: in 13 cases the cause was the emergency mode of power grids due to a short circuit, and another seven fires occurred due to violations of stove operation rules.

A similar case in the Leningrad Region — with no casualties

This is a separate incident: earlier in the Leningrad Region, a fire broke out on the third floor of a boarding school. 52 people had to be evacuated, including 48 children. Firefighters quickly dealt with the fire; according to preliminary data, there are no injuries or deaths.
