A Russian tourist got into a difficult situation while hiking in the mountains of Almaty: he climbed to an altitude of 3,332 meters in the Medeu district, near Skalisty Peak, but lost his bearings and was unable to continue the descent on his own. The Ministry of Emergency Situations of Kazakhstan reported the incident, as Life.ru writes.

How the operation went

The man was located by a search team from the Center for Monitoring and Rapid Response. Rescuers brought him to the Edelweiss tourist base; it turned out that he did not need medical assistance. After the descent, the Russian continued on his way on his own.

A similar case in Romania

The same outlet separately reported another incident: Romanian mountain rescuers found three Ukrainian citizens in the mountains of Maramureș Countywho had been unable to get out of the mountainous terrain for seven days. The men were in a state of severe physical exhaustion and were at risk of hypothermia. They were found at an altitude of about 1,700 meters; before the evacuation, rescuers provided them with water, hot tea, and food. The descent was complicated by the Ukrainians' lack of suitable climbing equipment — special safety ropes had to be used for a safe extraction. This is a separate incident, unrelated to the Almaty case.
