Telegram is the main source of news
Most residents of Uzbekistan learn about news through the Telegram messenger. Mansur Saidov, deputy director of the Ijtimoiy Fikr Center, announced this on November 2 at the presentation of the 'National Study on Media Consumption in Uzbekistan' held in Tashkent, reports Daryo.uz. According to the published results, 45.7% of participants receive news from Telegram channels, 36.9% from social networks, 33.8% from television, and 30.7% from online publications and news websites.
How the study was conducted
The study was carried out jointly with the National Mass Media Fund, the Delegation of the European Union to Uzbekistan, the Content Center, and the Ijtimoiy Fikr Center. The survey was conducted from September 8 to 19 of this year and covered all regions of the country; 1,411 respondents over the age of 18 took part. One of the questions asked which sources of information they use most often.
Television retains its audience
'Telegram has become a kind of phenomenon in the country's media space. 55% of users spend from 30 minutes to two hours a day in the messenger,' noted Mansur Saidov. At the same time, according to him, television retains its audience: about 67% of respondents regularly watch TV programs, especially people over 35. Among national TV channels, he named Uzbekistan 24, Milliy, Sevimli, Zor TV, and Yoshlar as the leaders; more than half of the population turns to Uzbekistan 24 for objective and official information. In addition, more than 80% of participants said they regularly or occasionally follow news in Uzbekistan and around the world.
