A park as an office: how the project works

The Work from Park project has launched in Dubai: employees can work in the public Al Barsha Pond Park instead of an office, paying from 50 dirhams per day. The initiative was launched by Dubai Municipality together with operator Letswork and Group Amana; the park was announced as the project's 'first flagship location' back in spring, and now the space itself has opened. The National reports on the launch.

Rates and zones

The space occupies two buildings and is divided into three zones. The first is an open-plan coworking area, where day access costs from Dh50 and includes a workstation, power outlets, high-speed internet and coffee. The second is two meeting rooms that can be booked by the hour or for the whole day at prices from Dh200; bookings are made through the Letswork website and app. The third zone is private offices and fixed workstations: a dedicated desk costs Dh1,200 per month, and prices for private offices have not yet been announced. Letswork co-founder and CTO Omar Almheiri noted that the number of spots is limited because the operator wants to build a working community, and said there is a long waiting list of people wanting to get into the space.

What else is worth knowing

The indoor premises accommodate more than 45 people; additional visitors can use the outdoor areas and the rooftop overlooking the park and the lake for free, with Wi-Fi available outside as well. The facility currently operates from 8:00 to 20:00, but the schedule may be adjusted based on demand. The municipality's director of public parks, Ahmed Al Marzooqi, told The National that the authorities are considering expanding the initiative to other parks — once demand at Al Barsha Pond Park becomes clear: 'We expect a large influx of visitors.' He added that the project is changing how parks are used in Dubai, combining leisure and work, and that a green environment can boost productivity.

Context and first impressions

The idea of working from Dubai's parks has been discussed since spring this year, when Al Barsha Pond Park was designated as the flagship site of the remote work scheme from public parks. The first users, interviewed by The National, rated the experience positively: Emirati Fatima Al Marzooqi said she would come regularly, noting the spaciousness and the view of the pond, while civil servant Sireen AbuSharib called the initiative a way to save time and effort, especially given the city's traffic — she combined working in the park with a visit to a clinic nearby in Al Barsha.
