The key facts
- Water pressure has dropped in four Kyiv districts; some buildings may face a temporary interruption of water supply
- The previous day, power outages lasted about 16 hours, and Troieshchyna was left completely without electricity
- Kyiv residents complain that outages occur even outside the schedules, and that it is difficult to file complaints with DTEK
Water supply problems in four districts
In Kyiv, water supply problems have been recorded in several districts. As reported by the Kyiv City State Administration, in four districts of the city — Holosiivskyi, Sviatoshynskyi, Solomianskyi and Shevchenkivskyi — water pressure has dropped due to a power outage at a water supply facility. The authorities warned that some buildings may experience a temporary interruption of water supply. According to the city administration, one of the resource-supplying facilities in the Ukrainian capital has lost power.
Background: prolonged power outages
The water problems emerged against the backdrop of an energy crisis in the city. The previous evening, reports said there had been no electricity for approximately 16 hours; Ukrainian Channel 5 noted that the energy situation in the capital remains difficult, and the Troieshchyna residential area on the left bank of the Dnipro was left completely without power. The outlet Strana.ua, citing complaints from Kyiv residents, wrote that there is no electricity in the city even according to the schedules, and that filing a complaint with the DTEK energy holding is either impossible, or the company insists that power is available at the address given. Earlier, Russia claimed a possible blackout in Ukraine.
What this means for residents
For residents of the affected districts, the practical significance of the announcement is that the water interruptions are linked to the loss of power to infrastructure rather than to accidents in the water networks themselves: the authorities explicitly warn of a possible temporary halt to water supply in individual buildings. Thus, the resilience of Kyiv's water supply in the current situation depends on the state of the power supply to its facilities, which is confirmed by the simultaneous appearance of reports of hours-long power outages and reduced water pressure.
