A program for armored vehicle repair has been signed

Russia and Azerbaijan have signed a joint program under which Moscow will help Baku upgrade its repair bases for armored vehicles and build new maintenance facilities. This was announced by the head of the Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation (FSVTS), Dmitry Shugaev, on the air of the program reports Life.ru.

From supplies to infrastructure

Cooperation between the two countries is no longer limited to selling finished weapons: Russian specialists will take part in developing the infrastructure needed to maintain the combat vehicles of the Azerbaijani army. These plans are enshrined in the joint program. This changes the format of interaction — we are talking about creating a permanent repair base on the territory of Azerbaijan, not just one-off deliveries of equipment.

Baku's pragmatic approach

According to Shugaev, representatives of Azerbaijan's defense ministry and defense industry advocate a pragmatic approach to joint work. As an example of Baku's interest, he cited President Ilham Aliyev's regular visits to the Russian stand at the ADEX arms exhibition; the most recent such exhibition was held from September 30 to October 2, 2026.

Context: intensification of contacts

The signing of the program took place against the backdrop of a recent intensification of bilateral contacts. As Life.ru previously reported, Vladimir Putin and Ilham Aliyev agreed on this during a telephone conversation on September 7, paying special attention to trade, economic and humanitarian ties; following the conversation, the parties decided to expand interaction at various levels. The armored vehicle program became a concrete step in the military-technical sphere following this agreement.
