Inside the enormous structure, the model was almost completely hidden: only her eyes and mouth remained visible. For realism, artists recreated red nails, rings, palm lines, and a small tattoo on a finger.
How the costume was prepared
According to Klum herself, as quoted by Vogue in its article about her look, the idea of turning into her own hand came to her a year ago. The costume was created by the team of special effects makeup artist Mike Marino, and the final transformation took about five to six hours. In the days leading up to the party, the model stoked interest by showing fans individual details of the makeup and hinting that the look would be especially creepy. The costume itself, the star admitted, turned out to be quite heavy.
Husband on tour — but symbolically present
The model's husband, musician Tom Kaulitz, was not at the party this time — he was on tour. Klum found a way to symbolically take him along: the giant finger of the costume featured a replica of a tattoo with his name.
